Phew! 400 miles in!

Ok, Its been a bit hard to update this as I have mostly been living in campsites for the past two weeks, but so far the trip has involved…

1 Ferry (fun and really comfortable)

20 Chocolate Croissants (approx)

50 mini bounty bars

Countless getting lost times!

2 Americans

Lots and lots of food

1 wing shape sun tan/burn on my back

Holland was AMAZING for cycling, we couldn’t get over how good it was. Cars even STOP for you, apparently they have this law that if there’s an accicdent its automatically the cars fault, which combined with the amazing cycle lane s lead to fun, no hassle cycling! Also I think that it helps that most drivers are cyclists too!

We decided to get the train down to the start of the Danube trail – or the DonauRadweg as it is called over here… as the Rhine was really insdustrial at the start, and, to be honest, all the flatness of Holland got a bit boring after a week! (I know – crazy eh?!)

We got the (very hot) night train down to Donauishingen which is just off the black forest and is beautiful. This is where the Donau begins and you can see it bubbling up through the rocks which is pretty cool. I’ll post pictures up when I can but I have not been allowed in internet cafes so far! We stayed in a pension (private house) and it was sooo good to sleep in a real bed and not have to pee outside in the middle of the night. Being away really makes you appriciate the luxuries of life!

The next day we met some American guys (melissa and russ) and I knew they were from that part of the world as they had their Crocs hanging off the back of their trailer! They were heading the same way so we have been hanging out for the last week or so. This has been really good as it has made me cycle father as I have been chatting away. It has also been sunny which is good, but is also bad because I get tired, faster.

The Donau route is soooooo pretty and the countryside and houses, castles and palaces we pass are amazing to be beside. We stayed in some really good campsites so far, with good views and cooked such wonders as chicken stirfry and spagbol! But tonight we have a day off in Ingolstadt and we are going out for a meal and some very large German beers!

Austria next, bring it on!

Highlight of the day so far…Going in to C&A with Melissa and trying on the German dresses (you know – the ones waitresses wear in the movies holding great big jugs of ale) Awesome! x
